Summertime Surfing in the NW

Photo taken on the Jetty at Westport, Washington

Summertime has gotten off to a late start this year, so try and find some time to enjoy mother nature in a way most Washingtonians do not think to. Go surfing. For those of you that think surfing is confined to the tropics, think again. There are world-class surf breaks all throughout the Washington coast that are being enjoyed by only a handful of people.

Keeping warm in Washington's mid-50 degree Pacific Ocean is as easy as throwing on a wetsuit. So whether you are beginning or advanced, there is a surf-break for you in the NW.

  1. Nice shot. Yours?
I don't think of Westport as big surfing territory, but I lived pretty close to "Surf City USA" for awhile. (That's Santa Cruz, not SoCal; the Surfing Museum is in Santa Cruz!)
Does Washington really get the waves to support this kind of surfing?

  6. I have been offered tons of times to go surfing with my buds, but one I saw that picture of that shark in the wave....No thank you. Good on ya though, heard it's a lot more fun in Washington area because of the wind causing huge waves

  7. Eri, there is a beach off of Marine Drive that you can skim board at when the tide is low. We were down there the other night and there were lots of people skim boarding. It is the Kite Boarding beach.

  8. Ryan,

Check out the Canon 7D. It's pricey, but all weather proof and the picture quality is just wonderful.
